Community Art Studio: Methods and Materials CATS631GD / ARTE398

This experiential credit university course is for artists, educators, therapists and others interested in learning non-interventionist aspects of art therapy as developed within free and welcoming public settings. The course will be taught in an active community art studio for students to experience how to set up this type of small and sustainable spaces for community building. Students will learn through service learning and art making the theory, methods and materials to create public homeplaces that serve as a practical way to take art as a form of healing into neighbourhoods. Students must be comfortable using art materials and able to travel (metro/bus) off-campus.
Course offered through Concordia University, off-campus at La Ruche d'Art St-Henri, 4525 St-Jacques, Montreal (metro Place St-Henri). It is available to Graduate students as well as students in the last year of their undergraduate degree. Interested individuals not currently enrolled at Concordia University can register as an independent student or through CREPUQ, if a student at another Quebec University.
