What is an Art Hive? Art Hives are publicly accessible community located art studios where individuals can gather to connect, spend time together, and make art.

Why Art Hives? Art Hive frameworks are grounded in theory that supports community connection as a core feature of inclusion. In other words, when people know they belong, they are likelier to notice one another, and problem solve together.

About the Hearthstone Art Hive: Hearthstone is a new project of The Art Hives of St.John's, in partnership with MUN's Faculty of Education's Counselling Psychology program.

Art Hive for Wellness and Connection. Art Hives seeks to foster creative autonomy and independance through connecting with others in a group setting. Activities are arts-focused, non-evaluative, and informed by core tenets of art therapy practice.

  • Community ownership builds agency.  An Art Hive programming is built on community engagement and identified need. We invite participants to bring programming ideas that speak to the unique needs of the surrounding community.
  • Community gathering spaces fight against isolation. Isolation and social marginalization are identified contributors to poor mental health. Shared public creative spaces like Art Hives provide opportunities for sharing experiences and skills in creative environments. By combating isolation, we also inform wellness and agency through inclusion.
