Penn State began the Matt Campbell era with a bang last week, taking down Marshall 45-0. Rocco Becht – who followed Campbell from Iowa State – threw for 271 yards and four touchdowns in his Nittany Lions debut, with four different receivers catching those scores: Koby Howard, Brett Eskildsen, Zay Robinson and Benjamin Brahmer.
Temple began its season against Rhode Island, taking down the Rams 38-14. The Owls dominated in the ground game, rushing for 227 yards, with much of that coming from Keveun Mason, who finished the game with 20 carries for 158 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Temple played two quarterbacks – Ajani Sheppard and Jaxon Smolik – who combined to throw just 16 pass attempts, with one touchdown and zero interceptions.
