Course Description: This experiential course has been redesigned as an online course and will consider the challenges, self-care, as well as the solidarities that emerge when revisioning institutions and other social environments to better face urgent societal demands affecting public health. The course welcomes students to examine, identify, and respond creatively to a particular wicked social or environmental health challenge (i.e. social isolation, the stigma of mental illness, health effects of climate change, homelessness, lack of clean water, food insecurity, effects of colonization) located in a particular place (i.e. hospital waiting room, parking lot green space, river, cultural or educational institution, rain forest, shopping mall). Students will consider their role in relation to other sentient beings, including animals and plants to consider new emergent ways to contribute to their own health and wellbeing, as well as that of individuals, families, communities and the inhabited land. Use of the creative arts, gardening, dance, theatre and movement will provide methods and materials to develop mutual care practices that will sustain and inform final creative projects. In addition to scheduled class times, students will engage in service learning and a public presentation.
