The Art Hive at UDYC
Monday 12-2pm
Wednesdays 12-2pm
The Art Hive at UDYC is an open art studio for youth experiencing homelessness ages 18-24. The Art Hive seeks to cultivate community engagement, self-care, and creative expression in our participants while mindfully holding space for our youth of color and our LGBTQ+ youth. The Hive is a predominately youth-lead space where participants take leadership roles in honing their personal practice as well as community-based projects. Our participants create the Hive's community agreements which reflect their needs for the space, while sharing skills, coordinating community-based artworks, and leading workshops. The Art Hive at UDYC also works collaboratively with the P.O.C, Street Arts program, which employs P.O.C. youth experiencing homelessness. These interns co-facilitate the Art Hive and lead workhops for other participants.
At its heart, the Art Hive at UDYC believes that creative expression is a powerful tool for youth experiencing homelessness to tell their stories, gain healthy coping skills, and connect with others in positive ways.
